Lazy 15: Day 5- Galaxy

Yes, yes, I know I said I'd put up the water marble yesterday, and I didn't. I'm very sorry, and I do hope to do it sometime soon. But in order to not get too far behind, I have today's theme, which is galaxy nails!

For starters, I just have to say that I LOVE galaxy nails. They looks soooo pretty when done well, and I always like to see people's individual twist on this design. I tried galaxy nails once before here, and I think I actually like those better, although I was pleased with these as well. :)
Anyway, one great thing with this technique is that it's so simple to do!! You just start with a black base polish, then sponge on any colors you like to make the "galaxy/nebulae" look. And to finish everything off, I freehanded some stars.
What do you think? Have you ever tried galaxy nails, and do you like them?

I'm starting to get excited for Friday's post, feminine nails! That's actually my birthday, and I have some fun nail art to try out! Woo hoo, can't wait!! :)

Until next time, happy polishing!!!

The Lazy 15- Day 2: Gradient

I'm ba-ack!!! YAY!!! Sorry- again- for the absence, but my life is just too hectic to post as often as I want to. Blogging while having school and homework is hard enough, but then throw in the fact that I entered a nail challenge and am doing NaNoWriMo means that my time is definitely stretched in every direction!

What's NaNoWriMo you ask? Well, for starters, that stands for National Novel Writing Month, and it occurs every November. As you may have already figured out, the purpose of the month is to write a rough draft for a novel of 50,000+ words. This averages out to 1,667 words a day; this may not sound like a lot, but writing creative fiction that you made up is definitely a challenge!!

Anyway, enough talking and on with the nails for day 2 of, "The Lazy 15 Challenge." Oh boy, these nails. I have rather mixed feelings about them, but will let you see for yourself.

When I was thinking of what polishes to use, I knew that I was definitely going to use this neon pink polish that I hadn't tried out yet. Then I thought, maybe my yellow will look good with it. As I was doing it, I was not happy with the way it was looking. But once it was finished, it started to grow on me some. Now, I just can't decide whether I like it or not. :/
In the pictures, my colors got sooooo distorted!!! My NEON pink polish looks peach, and my yellow is more gold than the light yellow color it really is. :(

Also, since this was done with my non-dominant hand (my right hand) it wasn't the neatest mani I've ever done. The cleanup is pretty horrendous too...

Oh well, there's always next time!!!

And if you'd like to see a gradient (also called ombre) tutorial, check out this post on my blog: Icy Ombre. These, Rock n Ombre nails were another gradient mani that I did on a friend.

Polishes Used:
  • Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Lightening (Quick Review: this polish really does dry fast!!! However, I don't like the large brush; it puts way too much polish on my small nails.)
  • Funky Fingers in Aloha!
Check out Phoenix Nails for the inlinkz to the other fabulous participants!!!!

Enjoy!!!

LDTTWC: Day 4- Lights, Camera, Action!

Lights, Camera, Action! Get ready for today's theme, straight from Hollywood (1997 :). So, my "nostalgic" movie mani is: Titanic. This could probably also fit in the historical event category too. :) Now I've never personally seen the movie (although I might now :), this was a pretty fun design to paint.
I didn't want a blue sky and blue water, so I decided to try a sunset. I'm not quite sure if I like the color though... On my middle finger, I also painted a setting sun. My first idea to do the waves was to use masking tape (which might be my favorite nail tool :); I cut a wave shape and then put the tape on my first finger. That didn't work quite so well, so for the rest of the nails, I free-handed my water.
And here sadly, we have our sinking ship right behind an iceberg. :( I'm also not sure if you can see in the picture, but below the windows, I started the word Titanic with a "T, i, t."
Now on my left hand, I chose not to do a ship, but rather paint a sun. The rest of my nails had clouds on them. I do really like the cloud color, which was pretty easy to do; after painting them in white, I used a light blue shimmer polish to tone them done, and sparkle them up! :D

I hope you like it! (Although, can you really even like the Titanic story??? Well, at least you can enjoy the mani!)

This was another polish heavy design:

  • White- Wet n Wild French White Cream
  • Orange- Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Blazed
  • Yellow- Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Lightening
  • Blue (for clouds and iceberg)- Pure Ice Polish in Frosted Ice Sky
  • Blue (for water)- Wet n Wild Fast Dry in Teal or No Teal
  • Black (my Sally Hansen was running out :(, so I got a new black color :)- Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Black Creme

Rock n Ombre

Good news! I have another post for you guys from this past weekend!
This is an ombre manicure that I tried out on another friend that came over. The colors are black and pink, and I think they look very cool together. Another idea I had was to "reverse" the colors. You will notice that some nails have black on the bottom, and every other will have black on the tip. My friend couldn't decide which design she liked better, so I alternated and did both.

Colors Used: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Black Out and NYC Long Wearing polish in Fuchsia Shock Creme

If you want to try an ombre manicure yourself, check out my Ombre Tutorial Post.

Keep checking back, as I'll have a new nail design up in the next couple of days. :) I just have to find the time (which is hard to do now that school has started again).

Icy Ombre

So this summer, I've been seeing a lot of ombre manicures on the computer and in magazines, and I finally decided to give it a try. I'm pretty happy with the results, and it wasn't that hard, however, I feel it could be better with practice. I do really love the colors of it though; it reminds me of clear, sparkly ocean water. And that's something great to be reminded of with the end of summer coming in a few weeks. :O
First, you will have to choose your colors. You can do two or more, but I'd recommend just two paints for your first time. You also need to make sure that the colors are VERY different shades. If they are even remotely similar, they will end up looking the same. I picked any icy blue and an "American Flag Blue." Then you will paint the lighter color on all of your nails.
Once your base color dries, you have to have some type of sponge. I used a cosmetic sponge, but any one with fairly small "pores" will work just fine. To create the ombre effect, paint a light and dark stripe slightly overlapping on your sponge.
Now simply apply the paint with the sponge onto your nails. Keep doing these steps over and over until you are satisfied with the results. Add dark then light until you get the blended design.

Colors used: Base- Pure Ice in Frosted Ice Sky; Dark Color- Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue It
Have fun and happy sponging!
